SUMMARY:AN EVENING WITH TIMMY MALLETT
DESCRIPTION:Step back in time to meet one of the UK’s most celebrated cult television entertainers! \nWacaday’s utterly brilliant\, ‘Timmy Mallett’ will be joining us on Friday 10th July at Rook Lane Chapel\, Frome. The evening will feature an intimate up close and personal event with an onstage live interview plus an audience Q&A hosted by former ITV presenter\, Jon Monie. \nExpect fun\, laughter and the possibility of an impromptu game of Mallett’s Mallet! \nTimmy began presenting on our television screens with the brand-new Wide Awake Club in 1984\, alongside Michaela Strachan. In 1985\, Timmy was offered the chance to present a spin-off of Wide Awake Club\, called Wacaday. The programme was characterised by games such as the now classic “Mallett’s Mallet” \nSince then Timmy has hosted many successful shows and regularly makes guest appearances on other programmes where his entertaining opinions\, loud looks and good humour make him a popular guest. \nWith West End show producer Andrew Lloyd Webber\, Timmy Mallett formed the “band” Bombalurina\, reaching number 1 in the official UK charts whilst topping the charts in more than a dozen countries around the world. He’s worked with George Martin and featured in Skepta’s music video for the hit song\, ‘Rolex Sweep’ accompanying Skepta at the MOBO awards. \nTimmy is an accomplished artist who has had his work exhibited at various art galleries; enjoys cult status among students and young adults\, has sat on every seat at Man Utd and City; owns over 87 pairs of specs; built a pole house on the great barrier reef\, cycled thousands of miles around the coastline of England and Ireland\, and gave a break to Mike Myers & Chris Evans among others; debated at the Oxford Union and runs his own successful TV production company. \nInterviewer\, Jon Monie is a familiar face to West County audiences – either through his fifteen years as a presenter for HTV/ITV West\, or from his many comic pantomime performances. \nThis Christmas will be his 24th panto season\, having performed at Bath’s Theatre Royal over 1\,300 times. \nAs an award-winning writer he has scripted numerous pantomimes which are performed throughout the UK each year\, five children’s plays\, and is currently working on the book and lyrics of a new musical which is set to tour in 2027. \nRecent TV acting credits include The Nevers (HBO); Showtrial and The Outlaws (both BBC)\, and Bridgerton (Netflix). Explore the byways of Frome\, enjoy gardens lovingly prepared by volunteers\, treat yourself to a piece of cake and a cup of tea\, or just wander around and have a chat. Join thousands of visitors discovering beautiful places across the town and talk with knowledgeable gardeners and wildlife enthusiasts. \nThere will be a large range of gardens open\, including several new additions and recent makeovers. Please be aware that some gardens are only open one or two days across the weekend\, as gardeners love to get out and see other gardens. This year\, you can enjoy exploring some gardens on the evening of Friday 10th – discover beautiful spaces when the air is cooler before Frome Festival’s evening events. \nWhen you purchase your tickets either in person or online\, you will receive a programme with a map which will act as your ticket for the gardens. Programmes can be bought on the Frome Festival website or in person at Cheese & Grain\, Hunting Raven\, Ellenbray\, Victoria Park Café\, Discover Frome in Frome Library and the Town Hall. All funds raised support Frome Festival. \nMany gardeners will be selling refreshments or craftwork at their Hidden Garden in support of their own favourite good causes.

SUMMARY:ALICE SEELEY - ANTI-SLAVERY CAMPAIGNER
DESCRIPTION:This joint exhibition with Photo|Frome presents searing photographs by Frome resident Alice Seeley (1870–1970) in King Leopold II’s Congo Free State. Using her Kodak camera\, she documented the mutilation of Congolese people under a brutal regime designed to enforce rubber production quotas. Shown internationally as lantern slides\, her images galvanised public opinion and resulted in the collapse of Leopold’s personal rule in 1908. Alice Seeley was arguably the first photographer to create and use her own images as part of an active campaign for social change.
