DESCRIPTION:Join printmaker and bookbinder\, Jen Louise Meyer\, for a softcover bookbinding workshop. \nDuring this workshop\, participants will learn the skills to make A6 sketchbooks using the Coptic binding method\, the oldest binding technique. All materials and tools will be supplied\, including a selection of Jen’s original lino prints to choose from for book covers. Participants will have the opportunity to make more than one book if time allows. \nJen will also talk about how to book bind at home without investing in a lot of equipment and\, for those interested in continuing bookbinding on a regular basis\, Jen will provide an introduction to the specialist tools she uses. \nThis workshop is for adults. Coined by Ned Sherrin as “the master of the short poem” his work has also been described as “absolutely beautiful” by Alexander Waugh with Iain Anderson of BBC Scotland noting that it was “philosophy in poetry form” and the Sunday Times commenting on its “dramatic passion and dignity”.\n‘The Failing of Angels’ his extraordinary debut novel was published in 2020 – “I have never read such beautiful writing. I was stunned” Robert Pisani \nTara Minton is an Australian born harpist\, vocalist and composer; proudly endorsed by Camac Harps. SUMMARY:ALICE SEELEY - ANTI-SLAVERY CAMPAIGNER
DESCRIPTION:This joint exhibition with Photo|Frome presents searing photographs by Frome resident Alice Seeley (1870–1970) in King Leopold II’s Congo Free State. Using her Kodak camera\, she documented the mutilation of Congolese people under a brutal regime designed to enforce rubber production quotas. Shown internationally as lantern slides\, her images galvanised public opinion and resulted in the collapse of Leopold’s personal rule in 1908. Alice Seeley was arguably the first photographer to create and use her own images as part of an active campaign for social change. Some photographs in this exhibition may be distressing. \nThe exhibition runs during Frome Museum’s normal opening hours: 11am to 3pm Tuesday to Saturday\, plus Independent Market Sundays (5th July) \nwww.frome-museum.org

SUMMARY:PEACE MANDALA – TIBETAN MONKS FROM TASHI LHUNPO MONASTERY
DESCRIPTION:Over three days\, Tibetan monks from Tashi Lhunpo Monastery make a Peace Mandala\, representing a Buddha’s earthly palace using millions of grains of coloured sand. Watch the intricate design build up from the dedication ceremony. \nThe most intriguing and intricate example of the Vajrayana tradition of Tibetan Buddhism is the construction of the Sand Mandala. Made from millions of grains of coloured sand\, the image grows over a series of days until it can be visualised as the palace of the Buddha who visits our realm to bring wisdom\, compassion and peace. The initial dedication ceremony\, the construction and the final dismantling of the mandala are all part of this exhibition. The monks are highly qualified masters of mandala-making who have studied in the monastery since childhood. The final ceremony for the dismantling of the mandala takes place on Monday morning\, beginning with a blessing\, and concluding with a procession led by the monks to distribute the sand in running water. Return to the hall to collect some of the sand to take away as a memory of the mandala. \nVisits to the mandala and the final ceremony are free of charge with voluntary donations to Tashi Lhunpo Monastery to support the monks in their work. www.tashi-lhunpo.org.uk
