Please help us to ensure the future of Frome Festival.
Because of the lockdown and the inevitable cancellation of the 2020 Festival, we are facing a financial crisis and appealing to you to help us keep the festival afloat.
We need to raise an estimated £6,000 to secure the 2021 festival and rebuild our reserves for future festivals. We operate on narrow margins with a team of only three part-time staff, offer many free events and set realistic ticket prices for others.
Unfortunately, just before the lockdown, our Frome Town Council grant, which was £10,000 for each of the past six years, was reduced to £6,000 as the Council faced growing demands from many local organisations working for the good of the community.
We have up to 200 unpaid volunteers who help out during the festival. This helps us keep our running costs very low compared to other festivals of a comparable size and duration. Two members of staff are currently on furlough, also to save costs. However, typical annual running costs – salaries, fees, insurance, phone, electricity, design, print and promotion – amount to over £30,000.
In the first three months of this year – our busiest period – we had already compiled most of the 2020 programme. And although we hadn’t signed contracts with all the artists and venues, we had already incurred significant expenditure for running costs, promotion and design.
In the past six years, four festivals have produced modest net income, but two have made losses, an inevitable risk for a rich and varied programme of 200 events catering to a wide variety of ages, audiences and tastes.
2020 was to be a special year of celebration: our 20th birthday and 20th consecutive festival. We still want to mark that milestone 2-11 July 2021 but need your help. If you want the Frome Festival to survive, please give what you can. Details on how to do this are at the bottom of this letter.
Whatever you donate, no matter the size, will be gratefully acknowledged and the total recorded in the print and online versions of the next programme. If you make a contribution of £100 or more, this will be specifically acknowledged in the programme. We are very grateful to have already received two pledges of £500.
As a registered charity, we can claim gift aid from HMRC on all qualifying taxpayers’ donations, thus adding 25% to the amounts we receive.
