STORIES OF THE DALAI LAMA – Alison Murdoch
DALAI LAMA DAY – CELEBRATE THE 91ST BIRTHDAY OF HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA
Born in 1935 in a remote Tibetan village, The Dalai Lama has been a teenage head of state, refugee, world religious leader and Nobel Prize winner – although he describes himself as ‘a simple Buddhist monk’ at heart. Alison will share some stories from the life of this extraordinary man who she first met in 1987. Alison Murdoch is a local activist and writer who has been a student of Tibetan Buddhism since 1987. She has visited Tibet twice, has written and broadcast about her many visits to the Himalayas, and for 13 years was a Buddhist contributor to BBC Radio. In Frome, she’s the founder of The Good Heart and the town’s annual Kindness Festival.
Following Alison’s talk the Monks from Tashi Lhunpo Monastery will offer a Long Life Prayer for His Holiness the Dalai Lama and we hope you will join us to celebrate with a special Birthday Cake.
