FROME FESTIVAL TREASURE HUNT

A fixture of Frome Festival’s programme, the annual Treasure Hunt challenges you to find your way around Frome with the help of mildly devious clues.

You do not need knowledge of Frome, just a keen eye and a sense of humour. All the clues are found within a reasonable distance of the town centre, some of which link to this year’s textile theme. So give it a go and enjoy an afternoon or two strolling around our wonderful town.

Treasure Hunt Prize

Silver Long Heart Pendant designed by goldsmith Annette Gabbedey

This is one of Annette’s signature pendants – like many of her pieces, it is very tactile and created to enjoy the lovely solid pendulum feel. Annette is celebrating 35 years in business this year and is delighted to have provided prizes since Frome Festival was founded in 2001.

Treasure Hunt 2024 – Winner Announced

Marilyn Sims has won the 2024 Frome Festival Treasure Hunt, receiving a beautiful silver pendant from Annette Gabbedey’s Eternal Collection. Frome resident Marilyn has been taking part in the annual Treasure Hunt ever since the Festival started in 2001, stating “I’ve always done it with my daughters and my grandson and it’s a wonderful thing to do in the school holidays with the children. We always have fun!” The Treasure Hunt was once again set by Gavin Rea, the former Frome Festival Chair, who has recently been recognised as a lifetime Vice President of the Festival. The quiz consists of many photos of the less recognisable Frome landmarks, sculptures and symbols along with cryptic clues in the form of riddles. Marilyn added “We’re always surprised that there are always one or two difficult questions that we take a long time to get right. This year it was the plaque about the Valentine Lamp. We walked up and down the hill three or four times.” In total there were 15 completely correct entries with the winner drawn from those randomly.

The prize-giving took place at Annette Gabbedey’s studio shop at 5 Catherine Hill, where the pendant was presented to Marilyn by Annette and current Frome Festival Chair, Rosie Eliot. Annette Gabbedey said “I’m delighted to be able to donate a prize again. I’ve been donating prizes since the start of the Festival and am honoured to support it because it’s a really important part of the town.”
