FROME FESTIVAL TREASURE HUNT
A fixture of Frome Festival’s programme, the annual Treasure Hunt challenges you to find your way around Frome with the help of mildly devious clues.
You do not need knowledge of Frome, just a keen eye and a sense of humour. All the clues are found within a reasonable distance of the town centre, some of which link to this year’s textile theme. So give it a go and enjoy an afternoon or two strolling around our wonderful town.
Treasure Hunt Prize
Silver Long Heart Pendant designed by goldsmith Annette Gabbedey
This is one of Annette’s signature pendants – like many of her pieces, it is very tactile and created to enjoy the lovely solid pendulum feel. Annette is celebrating 35 years in business this year and is delighted to have provided prizes since Frome Festival was founded in 2001.
Thank you to everyone who took part

Treasure Hunt 2025 – Winners Announced
Carol Holt and Elaine Lavender joined forces to win this year’s Frome Festival Treasure Hunt. The prize – a silver pendant designed by local goldsmith Annette Gabbedey – was presented to the winners by Festival Co-chair Andy Jones.
The Treasure Hunt raises funds to help support the festival and gives participants the opportunity to explore hidden parts of the town, whether they are longstanding residents or new to Frome. Carol Holt reflected on the search saying, “it was nice finding bits of Frome you didn’t know existed”, with her teammate Elaine Lavender adding, “I appreciated that it followed this year’s fabric theme.”
Gavin Rea, who has created the Treasure Hunt for the past few years, explained “there were eight fully correct answers received and a large number of very near misses with the winning entry drawn from a hat. A lot of people came a bit unstuck on clue 22 – right location, but the answer I wanted was glow-worms.” Carol Holt admitted that she would not have got that question right if she hadn’t gone to the ‘Frome Heritage Tree Walk’ covering Millennium Green earlier that week as part of the festival. As a Treasure Hunt regular she also noticed something during last year’s search that helped. Both winners agreed that they’d had “great fun doing it”, with plenty of tea stops along the way.
Annette Gabbedey Goldsmiths has sponsored the Treasure Hunt from the outset as a way of giving back to the community. Carol and Elaine are looking forward to sharing the prize necklace.
