
Frome Festival’s Silver Anniversary Chorus – Duke Ellington’s Sacred Chorus
To mark Frome Festival’s 25th anniversary, we’re organising a special performance of Duke Ellington’s Sacred Chorus on Saturday 11th July 2026, featuring some of the UK’s leading jazz performers. The music brings combines the choral traditions of Western Europe with Duke Ellington’s legendary jazz style to create a sparkling choral work.
We’re inviting community singers from Frome and beyond to sign up to be a part of this unique project. This is open to singers of all ages and abilities, whether or not you regularly sing in a community choir or can read music – we want everyone to be a part of this massive performance to celebrate community arts in Frome. There is no audition or minimum standard requirement. You will receive all music and rehearsal materials to help you prepare for the performance.
You’ll sing alongside Jacqui Dankworth, one of the UK’s leading jazz vocalists, a professional tap dancer, local chamber choir Cantamus and an all-star, one off big band featuring jazz luminaries from Frome and the surrounding area.

Jacqui Dankworth – Soloist
Jacqui Dankworth is one of the most highly regarded vocalists in the UK. Known primarily as a jazz singer, Jacqui’s unique musical palette also draws on folk, soul, classical, blues, and other influences. Her concert appearances and numerous recordings showcase her virtuosic, seemingly effortless mastery of a variety of genres.
Jacqui is constantly touring with her own band and has performed and recorded with a diverse array of celebrated musicians, including the Carducci String Quartet, Courtney Pine, Marvin Hamlisch, Paloma Faith, Alan and Marilyn Bergman, Gretchen Parlato, Clare Teale, Georgie Fame, David Gordon, Charlie Wood, Gregory Porter, The London Symphony Orchestra, and legendary jazz pianist Chick Corea.
Jacqui was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2019 Birthday Honours for services to music.

Mike Daniels – Musical Director
Mike Daniels is a conductor, trumpet player and educator who has honed the art of swing working with an embarrassment of the UK’s finest jazz musicians. A choral director of local fame he has taught hundreds to sing swing leading Duke Ellington’s wonderfully exuberant Sacred Concert, I Got Gershwin and Soulful Messiah – A Celebration with Black Voices and Birmingham Town Hall Gospel Choir.
